The Problem Of Computer Programming Education - 974 Words

Through the Educate to Innovate Initiative, the current administration has made the case that investments in STEM programs (science, technology, engineering and math) are essential to maintaining the status of international competitiveness. But since the start of the program in 2009, the importance of computer programming education is still being misunderstood and inadequately addressed. Though the administration has tried to get more technology into schools, it’s failed to teach kids what could really help them compete internationally which is coding. Computer programming is the driving force behind all forms of computer technology. Without programmers, these machines could be more innovative and capable than mankind could ever imagine, but if there is no one to program, there is no way for computers to perform needed tasks. Though technology has become such a key point in the national discussion on education, computer literacy is still sometimes confused with computer science. While computer literacy refers to word processing and knowledgeable use of the Internet, computer science refers to the study of algorithmic processes, hardware and software designs, and ways to impact society with technological innovation. A general computer science curriculum largely consists of critical thinking, problem solving, and logic – the skills that American students will need in order to compete for the best jobs, whether or not they become programmers (James, 2013). Impressions of the Deaf Culture and Community Essay

Abstract The deaf culture is one that I am not familiar with. No one in my immediate family or none of my close friends are deaf so I have not been exposed to it during my lifetime. I decided to take an American Sign Language course in high school to not only learn the language, but to learn about the deaf culture as well. I would like to someday be fluent in sign language so that I can cater to the deaf community while conducting business. Conducting research, I learned a lot about to deaf community. Deaf people are presumed to have a disability because they do not have the ability to use all five senses. The Deaf community is a cultural group, sharing common experience, concerns, and language Main Body The deaf community†¦show more content†¦Some people do not necessarily want to learn the deaf language, but instead or forced to for reasons such as: having a deaf parent or loved one, needing it for a job, or learning it for a mandatory school class. Some deaf people prefer the use of American Sign Language, but others do not. The deaf people that adapt American Sign Language allows them to communicate with the hearing English speaking community easily. Some deaf people that try to speak are considered as behaving inappropriately by other members of the deaf culture. In Constructing Deafness, Susan Gregory speaks of how there may or may not necessarily be a such thing as a deaf culture. By culture, the author meant a distinct way of life that every deaf person follows. With this definition, the answer is no. There is no such thing as a deaf culture because each and every deaf person spends their lives differently doing different things. There is no reaso n that a deaf person should have to live like another deaf person to not offend them. A striking statistic I read in the books is Deaf people have better driving records than hearing people. This shows that deaf people tend to be more cautious than hearing people and may take their time and not rush as much as a hearing person would. I also read that deaf people develop keener senses of observation, feeling, taste, and smell to compensate for their loss of hearing. Morality Argumentative Essay Example For Students

Morality Argumentative Essay MoralityMoral philosophy is very important to the success of an individual. But,before I tell you why moral philosophy is so important, and how it has helped mein my life, let me give you a little background knowledge. Rational knowledgehas two components. These components are material and formal. Formal knowledgeis not object oriented, and is based on reason. Formal knowledge is logic, orthe laws of thought. Material knowledge is object oriented, and has twocomponents. These two components are natural and moral. Natural law is physics. It determines what is the case, and how things behave in nature. On the otherhand, moral law determines what things ought to be. Morality is somethinghumans think about, and is not based on physiological factors. Now that we have a little background of knowledge and moral law, let metell you why you should lead a moral life. Even though morality is not imposedupon you, it is about humanity. And, while it may not seem fair, in reality, morality is judged by humans. So, if you are immoral, other people will be theones that notice that you are immoral, and that can hurt personal relationships. One way that I have succeeded throughout my career is by knowing and beingfriends with a lot of people. The practical side of life is based on interpersonal relationships. Whether it be social or business, communicating with people is the only way toget things done. There is no way that you can go through life in todayssociety without getting along with people. If people think that you are immoral, than they will not respect you, or be willing to work with you. Again, it mayseem like it is not fair because you know that no one is one hundred percentmoral, and if someone doesnt respect you because you are immoral, than they arehypocritical. But, when it comes to moral issues, the reality of the world isthat people are hypocritical. They feel it is okay for them to do it, but notokay for anyone else. Think about it, how many times have you said, I cant believe that hedid that; hes a jerk. Knowing the entire time that you have done the samething. You may say, Who cares! Im here to tell you that one day you mightcare. Let me give you and example. After I completed a business venture thatmade me over one million dollars, I learned that the only reason I received thejob was because the man I was competing against had cheated on his wife. Well, the company offering the job decided that they couldnt trust this man becauseof his immoral activity. So, to answer your question, I care. And for thatmatter, I bet if you were involved in this situation, you would care. Now I want to tell you an obvious reason why you should care. This maybe so obvious that you overlooked it. Many of our nations laws are based onmoral issues. For instance, you cant hurt another human; you cant steal fromanother human; and you cant kill another human being. Now, you may say, Ialready know this! But, if everybody knew this, would we need jails? Let meask you a question. How successful can you be in jail? My point with thisquestion is to get you to realize that you cant be successful in jail. Nobody grows up saying that they cant wait to go to jail because theyknow that it is the place to be. Nobody says that if they could just get injail they know that they could be the best prisoner, and could have the biggestcell. This may be taking immorality to an extreme, but it happens. An immorallife could send a person to jail. I can tell you some of the consequences of animmoral life, but I cant make you be moral. Morality is not imposed upon youby society. Morality is self imposed; it is something in us, and defines whatconstitutes a human being. .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 , .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .postImageUrl , .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 , .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:hover , .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:visited , .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:active { border:0!important; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:active , .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60 .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue3c9bb69cfc4916de6311a59cf1c7f60:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Personal Identity and Afterlife EssayI am sure that many of you have participated in team sports. Now evenif you have a good game, maybe you scored all of the points, and the team won. But, at the end of the game you cheated. Well, everyone that knows you cheatednow labels you a cheater. So, in the future, when it is time to play the nextgame no one wants you on their team. They think that you will give the team abad name because you cheated before. Again, you might say, Who cares? All Ican tell you is that if you cant play because no one wants you on their team, then you sure cant win or be successful. So since morality, whether it is fairor not is judged by those around you, you will be better off in the end if youlead a moral life. Kant says, The moral worth depends, therefore, not on the realizationof the object of the action, but merely on the principle of volition accordingto which, without regard to any objects of the faculty of desire, the action hasbeen done(Kant, p.13). What this great philosopher was saying, is that youcant always go for the instant reward when you are going to do something. Sometimes you have to bypass the selfish inclination and not cheat or do thingsthat are immoral. Yes, you may not win this game, but at least you can playtomorrow and maybe win then. Moral law is universal. It is not created by anyone, it just exists. Also, moral law is a priori, or in other words, it exists before empirical law. Moral philosophy is very valuable to everyones life. Morals are proper foreveryone, and since they are based on metaphysics, and metaphysics transcendsdifferences, they are also cross cultural. Moral law has helped me besuccessful in everything that I do. Being a 65 year old man, I have seen a lot. I know the value of moralphilosophy. Moral philosophy has helped me be successful in every thing that Ihave done. You may ask, How has it helped you be successful? Well, I havetold you a couple of aspects of moral philosophy, and all of these aspects havehelped me keep things in perspective. Financial success will come with morality, but if it doesnt, then you will still be better off because you have led amoral life. There have been times in my life when I have succumb to selfishinclination, and the results were immediately good. But ultimately, if I hadbeen labeled as an immoral person, and was not able to do certain things becausepeople didnt like me, than I definitely wouldnt have been the one invited togive this talk to you. By the way, I am getting paid an awful lot of money forthis talk. So there is another way that morality has helped me. Happiness isnot a grounding for morality, because some immoral people are happy. But,morality can lead to ultimate happiness and greater success in whatever youattempt to do in life. Philosophy

My Mom free essay sample

My mother is strong beyond expectation or imagination. As a child she went through circumstances that most can’t even begin to envision. My mom has always told me stories of her childhood, and when she does, I can’t help but think that even when times were at their worst, she was always at her best. She excelled in her academics, held on to faith, and remained positive. Never once have I heard my mom complain about the things she has been through. Instead, she is thankful for the good in her life. She is my living proof that if I choose to stand strong, I can overcome anything. Among the many life lessons that my mom has taught me, the two most important are thoughts about happiness and education. I remember being very young and coming home from school with complaints. My mom would say, â€Å"For every one negative thing you say, I want to hear three positive things†. We will write a custom essay sample on My Mom or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page She is always quick to point out that I am the only person who can control my happiness. Of course, she is right; I will never be able to control what other people do or the situations that may come my way, I can only choose how I will respond. Quite possibly the most important thing my mother has ever said to me is this, â€Å"Education is the one thing that can never be taken from you. † I find these words encouraging in my head as I make it through college and plan for my future. These words remind me that school is not about the grade, but about the knowledge I will be admired with. This single sentence will continue to inspire me as I leave college and pass along all that I have learned to the children I will have. My mom has always reminded me that I can be and do whatever I want. She is the most important person in my life for more reasons than there are stars in the sky. My mom will never be in the history books and her name will never be in lights. For me, though, she is an eternal life and the brightest light which never fades. So as you can see I don’t have a most valuable thing that I own but God gave me the most wonderful precious gift that I have ever had and I thank God everyday for putting that special person in my life. LOVE YOU MOM!!!!!! 3
